27th December - 3rd January
VISITING: Krakow, Galeria Krakowska, Czestochowa, Jasna Góra, Wieliczka Salt Mines, Lagiewniki Hill,Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy (Suor Faustina), Jewish District of Kazimierz, Auschwitz, Birkenau, Zakopane,Tatra Mountains, Wadowice & Kalwaria Zebrzydowska
Friday, 27th December | We will meet at the airport at 06.10am for our Air Malta flight departing at08.10am and arriving in Krakow airport at 10.35am. On arrival we are transferred to our 3 star ViennaHouse Easy Hotel. Since check in is normally in the afternoon, we will leave our luggage at the hotel and gofor on a half-day optional city tour accompanied by our guide starting with the Bishop’s Palace, Wawel Hill,Wawel Castle and Cathedral. The castle was home to many Polish kings and queens. A walk up GrodzkaStreet leads us to the heart of Krakow, the Rynek Gówny or Main Market Square. There, the large GothicCloth Hall is the perfect place for souvenir shopping. We visit also the Royal Tombs and Sigismond’s Bell.We later return to our hotel and check in.
Saturday, 28th December | This morning we will go on an optional excursion to Wadowice, the birthplaceof Pope Wojtyla. The visit will include the entrance to new multimedia Museum of St. John Paul II in Hishouse of birth. While there we see the Pope’s monument erected in front of the gothic Parish Church andalso visit this church where the Vicar of Christ was baptized, served as an altar boy and prayed daily in frontof the picture of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. En route to Krakow we will visit Kalwaria Zebrzydowska withits Basilica dedicated to Our Lady of the Angels and an important place of devotion in Poland.
Sunday, 29th December | The morning is free and one can attend mass. We will later go on an optionalexcursion with a difference taking us to Auschwitz and Birkenau. Here we witness one of the mostmemorable lessons of modern European history. During our visit we’ll see the flower strewn Death Wall,the national memorials, the rail line and remains of the hundreds of barracks, a testimony to the numberof lost lives through Nazi activities across occupied Europe.
Monday, 30th December | We will go on our full-day optional excursion to Zakopane, a town lying in theTatra National Park in the heart of the magnificent Tatra Mountains. Your sightseeing tour of the town willinclude a funicular train ride to the top of Mount Gubaówka where you will enjoy a panoramic view of theTatras, as well as a visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, built as a votive offering of thanks to herfor saving the Pope’s life after the assassination attempt of 13 May 1981. Karol Wojtya’s love of the Tatrasand Podhale region was fostered in his youth when he used to trek through the mountains with his fatherand brother.
Tuesday, 31st December | Today we will go on a half-day optional excursion to the Wieliczka Salt Mines,one of the oldest in all of Europe. Over the centuries, devout and superstitious miners have carvedfabulous figures, monuments and altarpieces out of its salt walls. These amazing works have earned theWieliczka Salt Mine a place on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. Our route through the mine leadsus through galleries and chambers on three levels. We walk down and a lift carries us back to the surface.Tonight we will join locals and tourists alike in the city centre to celebrate welcoming the new year!
Wednesday, 1st January – Happy New Year! | We board our coach and on our half-day optional excursionwe head to Lagiewniki Hill to visit the Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy which St John Paul II consecrated in2001, and the tomb of Suor Faustina. En route to our hotel we drive through and stop in the former JewishDistrict of Kazimierz. The afternoon is free to enjoy Krakow centre.
Thursday, 2nd January | On today’s optional excursion we will go to Czestochowa, a town of specialimportance to St. John Paul II. He stayed there six times as Pope and chose it as the place for the 6th WorldYouth Day. Jasna Góra “Bright Mount” is the most important Marian shrine in Poland and a destination forhundreds of pilgrimages every year. Its focal point is the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin and its miraculousicon of the Black Madonna. When the Pope came to Jasna Góra, he always made his way to the Chapel ofthe Miraculous Image where he would pray and entrust the Church and the World to the hands of theMother of God.
Friday, 3rd January | After checking out of our rooms, we proceed to Krakow Airport for our Air Maltaflight departing at 11.25am and arriving in Malta at 1.55pm.Please note: Vienna House Easy hotel is situated 2km away from the city centre. We have included thebuffet dinner as optional for you and have reduced the original price of the tour to make up for any taxiexpenses, should you wish to visit the centre at your leisure. Please also note that some excursions maytake place on different days. This is subject to entrance bookings by the agent.
