One Day Introductory Course on Microlight

Description
Buzz Flying Ltd is proud to be associated with Island Microlight Club in providing training towards microlight aviation in Malta.
You will be given your very own pilot’s log book to keep, the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) syllabus for the UK National Private Pilot’s License (microlights), and the latest edition of Microlight Pilot’s Handbook by Brian Cosgrove.
We’ll start off with a classroom briefing covering an introduction to microlight aviation and local aviation rules and procedures. This will be followed by a familiarisation explanation on both our Ikarus C42B (three-axis controls) and our Apollo Delta Jet 2 (flex-wing, or weight shift controls.)
You will learn what is involved in preparing for a flight - making sure the aircraft is physically and legally airworthy, and going through the NOTAMs (notices to airmen) and weather observation and forecast (METAR and TAF.)
You will attend a safety briefing, followed by a half hour air experience flight in our Ikarus C42B with your instructor. You will be seated in the pilot’s seat for the duration of the flight, where you will be given the chance to handle the aircraft’s controls under the guidance and supervision of your instructor. Life jackets are worn throughout the flight, and our C42B is also equipped with a ballistic recovery system (BRS) which is basically a parachute for the whole aircraft in case of dire emergency.
After the flight you will learn how the flight is documented - aircraft log book, your student record, your log book, and the instructor’s log book where your name will be recorded as an instructional flight.
The second half-hour flight will be in our Apollo Delta Jet 2 where you will realise the difference in and sheer beauty of flying in an open-cockpit aircraft with “weight-shift” controls. Again, access to the controls will be provided. Lifejackets and intercom-equipped helmets will be worn throughout the flight. In case of cold weather (hardly a problem in the summer!) a full-body insulated flying suit and gloves will be provided.
After a break, a classroom explanation of basic aerodynamics will be given lasting about an hour. This will cover the basic principles of heavier-than-air flight with attention given to the aerofoil, basic forces involved, and movement about the three axes amongst others.
A pre-flight briefing will be held for the next flying lesson which will cover effects of controls (ex.4) and taxiing (ex. 5.) This lesson is expected to last about one hour, where you will experience the control inputs and their respective primary and secondary effects. Manoeuvring the aircraft safely on the ground (taxiing) will be covered as well. This is the beginning for all pilot training and gives a good hands-on feel about what the aircraft is doing, and more importantly - why.Terms & Conditions
